Virtually all virus packages these days will protect you from things like this. Regardless of your solution, for purposes of ANY security audit type of issue (HIPAA, SOX, PCI, etc.) be sure to document your choice. The ability to follow a documentation trail can be vital to the audit process.

why do you need HIPPAA compliant antivirus software? The antivirus software should not be transmitting patient data anywhere. I and every doc i know just use standard antivirus software, AVG or whatever.
