You can try Avast AV, available at www.avast.com. You download it and then receive a registration code for free from the website.

I would have previously recommended AVG, but it gives too many false alarms for my taste.

They are all free, updatable, and they work.
AVG is the best free anti-spy-ware. I also have used Ad-Ware. I used it to clean a lot of mess off of my computer. Please do not use Pest-Trap or STOP. They are rip-offs. They may make it worse.
I have a ten thousand dollar computer setup, and I did a lot of checking before I decided on what antivirus software to use.

The best that I've come up with is to use a combination of free products.
